Our Outdoor First Aid (OFA) courses challenge participants to solve emergency problems using outdoor scenarios in demanding environments.
Outdoor First Aid (1 day)
Spend the day developing and refreshing emergency care processes in a practical manner. We use a combination of multi-media presentations, individual experiences and scenarios developed to reflect likely emergencies in your business or recreational environment.
Duration: 8 hours
This program includes the following topics:
- Accident site management
- Patient assessment
- CPR and basic life support
- Fracture assessment and treatment
- Spinal assessment and treatment
- Common medical conditions
- Environmental conditions and management
- AED Defib Practical
Certification
On completion of the course, attendees will receive an electronic (pdf) first aid certificate, which is valid for 2 years.
Unit standards
Registrants may choose to sit either of the following options on our 1-day Course:

NZQA Assessment for both Unit 6401, Provide First Aid & Unit 6402, Provide Basic Life Support, or
- NZQA Assessment for Unit 6400, Manage First Aid in an emergency situation*
* Prerequisite units apply
Outdoor First Aid (2 day)
Two days of full on Outdoor First Aid allows for the development of a well-structured approach to wilderness medical care. The 1-day program above is expanded and detailed in-depth using more outdoor scenarios to really lock in the methods and terminology needed to provide safe first aid until professional medics can arrive. Being held in an outdoor setting, participants will need to use lateral thinking to manage the various emergency scenarios we practice.
Duration: 16 hours, 2 days
This program includes the following topics:
- Accident site management

- Spinal assessment and treatment
- Common medical conditions
- Environmental conditions and management
- AED Defib Practical
Certification

- NZQA Assessment for Unit 6401, Provide First Aid & Unit 6402, Provide Basic Life Support, or
- NZQA Assessment for Unit 6400, Manage First Aid in an emergency situation*, or

NZQA Assessment for the entire 6400 series as above, or
-
NZQA Asessment for Unit 424, Assess and manage an emergency care situation during an outdoor
recreation activity*

All instruction is provided by professional, current, outdoor event medics, and draws on their extensive knowledge and experience.
